my face

hey there!
welcome to my online
portfolio type site.

My name is Brian Miranda, and I'm a web developer and internet researcher based in Mexico City. Need a website? Hit me up!

I'm also well-versed in UX design and mobile-first development (as you can see from this bitchin' website), and I also do research on various online topics, particularly about internet culture, community moderation, misinformation, political activism, internet censorship, platform policy/governance, open-source software, DRM, online communities, online harassment, and the various intersections of mental health and social media.

When I'm not working you can usually find me dancing rockabilly, almost every weekend. I also play the same three basic riffs on my guitar over and over again. Lately I've been getting into analogue photography, although I'm really not good at it. As for me, well, I like putting ketchup on eggs, I'm an avid fan of bubble tea and I grew up on a steady diet of Simpsons episodes, MTV, early 2000's internet culture, Beatles albums and old PS1 games.

<What music do you normally listen to?>

Most of the time it really depends on my current mood, although "alternative rock" seems to be the one size fits all answer to that question. At the moment I listen mostly to indie stuff, post-rock, emo, noise rock, dance-punk, some EDM and 90's alternative. I also listen to a lot of rockabilly music, both modern and classic.

<What are some bands that you like?>

Pixies, Stereolab, Pavement, Foo Fighters, HEALTH, The Strokes, The Chemical Brothers, Weezer, Pulp, Kevin Morby. I could go on.

<Do you read? What books do you like?>

I quite enjoyed The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger and The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, I re-read them whenever I can. I'm currently trying to finish House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski and getting through my Ian Fleming 007 boxset (currently reading Moonraker).

<Do you have any hobbies?>

Dancing is my main hobby. I do it pretty much every weekend, no exception. I take rockabilly dance lessons and I'm slowly starting to get into other rythms, such as lindy hop, boogie-woogie and swing.

Lately I've been getting into analogue photography, both with Instax and Lomo cameras, I'm not a great photographer, but nevertheless I enjoy it. I play the guitar, pretty badly I must admit. Before the pandemic I was learning to skateboard but I had to stop due to a fracture.

Besides that I like all the usual stuff, I enjoy exercising at the gym, running, cycling, reading and playing video games. Most of the time you'll find me making Spotify playlists until dawn.

<Are you a dog or a cat person?>

Well, actually I'm a human being. But if you're asking if I like dogs or cats, then I'd guess I like cats more than dogs. But dogs are okay too, don't get me wrong.

<What's your sign?>

Sun in Aquarius. Moon in Capricorn. Ascendant in Aries. Full star chart available upon request.

<Can you really travel through time?>

No, sorry.

<Achievements and awards>

Time magazine's Person of 2006.

Former world's youngest person.

Contestant in En familia con Chabelo.
